Choosing a Surgeon
Prior to deciding about the surgeon, a patient should update their knowledge and understanding of what kind of surgeon may be more appropriate for them. If the patient wants to undergo a plastic surgery procedure, a general surgeon may not be the best choice. The patient should check whether the surgeon has received specific residency training in plastic surgery, which makes them a qualified plastic surgeon.
Even while choosing among plastic surgeons, a discerning choice must be made in order to have the procedure performed by the best authority in the field. The patient should check whether the plastic surgeon is board certified, and by which medical board. Among various medical boards in the US, the most prestigious and authoritative is the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS).
Both plastic surgeons at MBody are board certified by the ABPS. They receive patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas.
Value of ABPS Board Certification
When a patient selects a surgeon with board certification from the ABPS, it will increase their chances of obtaining the highest quality plastic surgery treatment and very safe and desirable aesthetic outcomes. The ABPS is a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties. It has highly stringent membership requirements.
A board certified plastic surgeon from the ABPS will have passed the tough standards of selection, and patients can feel assured that they are in the best hands. The surgeon would have proven and established expertise in both facial and body procedures. A board certified plastic surgeon would have completed at least five years of surgical training from a medical school, including minimum two years in a dedicated plastic surgery residency program.
ASPS Member Surgeons
Extensive training in plastic surgery encompasses surgical procedures of the face and the complete body. Both Dr. Reps Sundin and Dr. Burton Sundin are also members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). ASPS member surgeons in the US are required to meet rigorous standards. They should have completed a minimum of six years of surgical training with at least three years of residency training in plastic surgery.
They would have to clear comprehensive oral and written exams, and would be required to complete continuing medical education, including patient safety every year. They would perform surgeries in accredited, state licensed surgical facilities only, and would abide by a strict Code of Ethics. These rigorous standards ensure that the patients can receive best treatment from ABPS certified and ASPS member surgeons.
