What is a weak chin / jaw line and what can you do about it?

Create a Strong Chin With Injections or Implants

What is a weak chin / jaw line and what can you do about it? The shape of your chin and jaw line are a key element that will determine the attractiveness of your face. Some people are born with a weak or receding chin. In others, the chin shape may change due to age or if the person has suffered an injury. Whatever the cause, if you feel a weak jaw line and chin mars your appearance, you can choose to undergo cosmetic surgery.

Chin augmentation surgery either alone or in combination with other procedures such as a neck lift, or rhinoplasty or a facelift surgery can improve the balance of features to improve appearance in both men and women.

Modern Body Contouring & Laser Center, led by board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton M. Sundin and Dr. Reps B. Sundin, provides chin and jawline contouring to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredericksburg, and surrounding communities.

When to Choose Chin and Jawline Surgery?

You are a good candidate for chin and jawline enhancement surgery if you have any of the following features:

    • A weak or recessed chin
    • A chin that is too prominent
    • A narrow jaw line
    • An overly wide jaw line
    • Disproportionate size of chin and jaw in the facial profile

    Benefits of Chin Augmentation

Chin augmentation procedure can increase your confidence in your looks by helping to:

    • Give a new look to the chin and jaw line
    • Balance your facial features
    • Define a weak jaw line
    • Reduce bulging of the cheeks
    • Improve facial symmetry
    • Reduce protrusion of the mouth or jaw

    Chin Implant Surgery or Mentoplasty

Mentoplasty is a surgery performed to reshape the jaw or chin region. Depending on the particular contour you desire, the surgeon will either insert silicone implants to augment the chin or remove excess bone to reduce jaw prominence.

Augmentation of the jaw helps to restore balance in the face in such a way that a “weak” jaw appears to be more defined and angular. The surgical procedures used in mentoplasty range from the simple to complex depending on the nature of change the client seeks.

    What does the Procedure Involve?

Chin implant surgery may be performed on an outpatient basis in the doctor’s clinic with local anesthesia. A small incision is made within the mouth or below the chin. Through this, the surgeon then introduces the biocompatible silicone implant, and positions it on the lower border of the jawbone or mandible, under the chin muscles. After this, the cut is stitched with dissolvable sutures and the chin is bandaged.

If you choose to undergo chin implant surgery along with another facial plastic surgery, the procedure will have to be performed under general anesthesia in the operating room. Chin augmentation surgery is a relatively simple procedure to improve the appearance of your chin. You will notice the change soon after surgery and be able to face the world with greater confidence.
