What Does Microneedling Do for Your Skin?

    Microneedling

What Does Microneedling Do for Your Skin?Microneedling is a minimally invasive aesthetic procedure which treats loose skin concerns through collagen production. The procedure is also known as collagen induction therapy and helps those looking to reduce the appearance of stretch marks and acne scars.

The procedure is used in several anti-aging treatments, such as sun spots and eyelid surgery. You are an ideal candidate for microneedling if you are in overall good health and have skin concerns that are unresponsive to other dermatologic procedures and over-the-counter products.

Modern Body Contouring & Laser Center, led by board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton M. Sundin and Dr. Reps B. Sundin, provides microneedling skin rejuvenation treatment to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredericksburg, and surrounding communities.

Microneedling Skin Rejuvenation: How it Works

Microneedling stimulates the skin to produce more collagen. The skin is slightly injured with the many pinpricks. In response, the skin makes fresh collagen-rich tissue. The skin tissue is more even in texture and tone. The skin loses collagen because of age or injury over time. You can make the skin firmer by encouraging new tissue growth.

    Microneedling Procedure

Small pricks will be made by the doctor under the skin during the microneedling procedure. This will be done by suing a pen-shaped tool. The pinpricks will be very small for you to notice them after the procedure. The tool will be moved evenly by the doctor across the skin. This is so that the new rejuvenated skin is even in appearance.

Your treatment provider will apply a topical anesthetic before starting so as to reduce any discomfort and pain. This will be done about an hour before the procedure is supposed to begin.

The actual microneedling process doesn’t take more than 30 minutes, but the treatment time will vary according to the target surface area and whether the procedure is combined with another treatment. Post-treatment, the doctor may also apply a serum or calming solution to soothe your skin.

    Microneedling Targeted Areas

Generally, microneedling is used on the face for targeting:

    • Acne scars
    • Sun spots or age spots
    • Fine lines and wrinkles
    • Large pores
    • Uneven skin tone
    • Reduced skin elasticity

Microneedling is used for treating stretch marks in addition to taking care of facial concerns. A study found that microneedling was effective in removing stretch marks on the abdominal area and thighs when combined with injectable fillers. The procedure may be used for treating scarring on other parts of the body as well.

    Downtime and Results

Microneedling is not invasive like cosmetic surgery. This means the recovery time in this procedure is minimal. In most cases, people can resume their daily activities almost immediately. Many patients make use of camouflage makeup for a few days until redness dissipates.

Sunscreen is important after getting a microneedling treatment since the skin is more sensitive. Your skin will rejuvenate tissue fairly quickly after microneedling. You should be able to see the results of treatment within a few weeks. You would require a series of sessions for maintaining the results of the treatment.
