    Preparing for Breast Augmentation Surgery

    Tag Archives: non surgical

Preparing for Breast Augmentation Surgery | Richmond | Ashburn |RestonThe preparation for breast augmentation plastic surgery procedure will begin once the surgeon has approved the patient’s candidacy. During the detailed pre-op consultation process, the surgeon will give a few specific instructions that should be followed as a part of preparation for the surgery.
A well-prepared patient will go through the procedure more easily and it will contribute to the overall success of the results. Board certified plastic surgeons at MBody provide breast augmentation to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations.

    Tips for Advance Preparation

The patient should consider the following suggestions to prepare for breast augmentation plastic surgery:

    • Collect all relevant information regarding medical history, and any current health conditions.
    • Make a list of all the medications, including prescription drugs, over the counter medicines such as aspirin and blood thinners, vitamins and herbal supplements that are being used currently.
    • Get a baseline mammogram done ahead of time as per the surgeon’s advice, if no recent mammograms are available. A mammogram with specialized views may be required, in addition to routine mammograms.
    • Arrange a talk between the surgeon and the personal physician for the adjustment of any prescription meds well in time.
    • Stop smoking a few weeks ahead of surgery, strictly as per the surgeon’s recommendation.
    • Complete any major or strenuous household chores or any other pressing tasks ahead of time so that the initial recovery period can be entirely stress-free.
    • Preferably, arrange someone to assist during the first few days of post-operative phase as well as someone who can drive the patient back home after the surgery and stay overnight for help.

Following the surgeon’s instructions to the letter during the pre- and post-operative phases will significantly benefit the patient. Not adhering to the instructions may increase the risk and create difficulties during the surgery as well as recovery.

    Common Instructions

Some of the instructions that a plastic surgeon may commonly advise to the patient as a part of preparation for breast augmentation will include:

    • Do not use aspirin, ibuprofen and NSAIDs for at least 10 days prior to the procedure.
    • Discontinue vitamin E, vitamin C, and any herbal supplements or remedies at least one month before surgery.
    • Do not wear makeup, nail polish, contact lenses, or jewelry or body piercings on the day of the surgery.
    • Do not wear any hair accessories that may contain metal, such as clips with metal springs.
    • Choose comfortable garments and shoes on the day of the surgery. Pants or shorts may be preferable and the top should button or zip in the front in order to avoid having to go over the head.
    • Do not consume alcohol for 24 hours prior to surgery.
    • Do not eat or drink anything for eight hours prior to surgery.
    • Diabetics should discuss their condition on the morning of the surgery.

Breast Augmentation Plastic Surgery Steps | Richmond | Vienna | RestonAccording to the ASPS data, over five million breast augmentation plastic surgery procedures have been successfully carried out over the last 20 years. Breast augmentation currently ranks as the number one cosmetic surgery procedure in the US. The breast surgeon will explain the various steps involved in the procedure at the time of pre-op consultation.
The patient should know the procedure well in order to relieve any anxiety and to make informed choices. She should preferably also review images or videos related to the procedure. MBody, led by board certified plastic surgeons, provides breast augmentation to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations.

    Anesthesia

Most surgeons will prefer to use general anesthesia to perform breast augmentation plastic surgery. An anesthesiologist may be present in the surgery room throughout the procedure to monitor the patient’s response. Once the surgery is over, the patient will be brought out of anesthesia.
Temporary effects such as grogginess, nausea, shivering, headache, and sore throat may occur for a few hours following anesthesia. The patient should have someone to drive her back home after a brief period of post-op monitoring.

    Placing the Incisions

The plastic surgeon will begin the procedure by placing an incision either in the breast crease at the base, the areola perimeter, under the arm, or around the navel. Scarring can be discreet if the incisions are placed in inconspicuous locations. Incision placement will be done as per the surgical plan, which is finalized in close consultation with the patient.

    Placing the Implants

Through the incisions, the surgeon will create a suitable breast pocket to accommodate the implant. The position of the implant may be in front of the pectoral muscle and directly behind the breast tissue, or below the pectoral muscle. The surgery can be more or less invasive, depending on this choice. The surgeon will help the patient make the appropriate choice based on her breast anatomy and personal aesthetic preferences.

    Closing the Incisions

After the implants have been adjusted into the right position, the surgeon will suture the incisions carefully. If traditional sutures are used, the surgeon may remove them after a week or 10 days. Hygiene in the area around the stitches must be cautiously maintained in the immediate post-operative phase to minimize infection risks.
The patient should not submerge the incision site in water, and keep it free from any contact with dirt. Strenuous activities and heavy lift of weights should be avoided initially to prevent any strain on the incisions.

    Drains and Bandages

Following the surgery, the breasts will be wrapped in bandages and drainage tubes will be placed under the skin to collect excess fluid. The patient will be fitted with a surgical bra for extra support and shaping of the breasts during recovery. The surgical bra should worn all the time for several weeks until the healing is completed.
MBody receives patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas for breast augmentation.

Breast Augmentation Plastic Surgery Recovery | Richmond | RestonAdvancements in surgical techniques have made breast augmentation a relatively less invasive and less painful plastic surgery procedure than before. However, it still involves a considerable recovery process. The patient should be prepared to follow the surgeon’s advice for recovery in order to ensure safe and desirable outcomes.
Mbody, led by board certified plastic surgeons, provides breast augmentation and various other cosmetic procedures. Patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations have an opportunity to receive breast augmentation at MBody.

    Estimated Downtime

A patient will have to go through a post-operative period of at least three days of reduced activity following breast augmentation plastic surgery. For the next three to four days, she may do perform mild activities within the home, which do not put a strain on the incisions. More active tasks can be pursued from the second week.
Total downtime and overall recovery period will differ between patients according to the breast implant technique performed, the size and type of implants, the location of incisions, and the patient’s natural healing ability. In about 10 to 14 days, most patients can return to work. Heavy lifting of weights and vigorous exercises can be resumed after one month.

    Wearing a Surgical Bra

Surgical garments are an important part of the breast augmentation recovery. The plastic surgeon will recommend the appropriate garments as required. In case of subglandular implant placement, the healing will be faster, and the patient may only manage with a normal bra for breast support, but without an underwire.
If the implants have been placed submuscularly, a special surgical bra or a wrap-style bandage will have to be worn. This will help the implant to harmonize with the breast tissue and muscle. It will support healing and enable the patient to acquire a natural breast appearance.
MBody receives patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas for breast augmentation.

    Avoiding Tobacco

Smoking and post-surgical healing do not go together. Nicotine tends to shrink the blood vessels, resulting in lowering of the oxygen levels in the blood and hampering the function of RBCs. This can delay the normal healing process and pose risk for the patient.

    Pain Medications

In the first few days, most patients will experience some amount of pain and discomfort. Pain medications may be prescribed by the surgeon to help manage the recovery in a comfortable way. Driving and any other activity requiring alertness should be avoided while the patient is using pain meds.

    Follow-up Appointments

In most cases, breast augmentation is performed on an outpatient basis. Therefore, the surgeon may call the patient the next day for a check-up. Some surgeons prefer to make the first post-op appointment at the end of the first week.
At this time, they will review the condition and remove the drains and sutures. Some surgeons may also recommend a professional massage or breast implant exercise regimen in order to support the surgical outcome.

Types of Breast Implants|Breast Augmentation| Richmond Plastic SurgeryBreast augmentation has been ranked as the most popular plastic surgery procedure in the US in 2015. The growing popularity has occurred, in part, due to the improved qualities of breast implants, which contribute to both safety and aesthetic appeal.
Board certified plastic surgeons at MBody provide breast implant surgery to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations.

    Classification of Implants

Implants in breast augmentation plastic surgery can primarily be classified into two types: saline and silicone gel implants. During the initial consultation, the surgeon will discuss the pros and cons of both types of implants and help the patient make the right choice.

    Saline Implants
Saline breast implants have been approved by the FDA for women above the age of 18. These traditionally popular implants are filled with a saline solution, which gives them a natural shape, feel and firmness. In most saline implants, the solution can be filled after the implant is surgically placed in the breast. A smaller incision will be required to insert the implant in a deflated state.
Saline implants are completely safe because the saline solution will not cause any harm in the event of implant leakage or damage. In terms of cost, saline implants are the most affordable option available.

    Silicone Implants
Silicone implants have been approved by the FDA for women above the age of 21. Over the years, their popularity has surpassed that of saline implants. The implant core is filled with silicone gel, which provides it a more natural touch and feel and consistency than a saline implant.
Leading plastic surgeons at MBody receive patients for breast implant surgery from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas.

    Form Stable Implants

Form stable implants, commonly known as gummy bear implants, are one of the latest FDA approved qualities in breast implants. These implants include a highly cohesive silicone gel core, which has a high density. As a result, these implants are able to maintain their form and shape even under pressure.
Secondly, the safety aspect is dramatically improved because the highly viscous silicone gel does not flow out to other areas of the body in the event of implant damage or leakage. For many people, these benefits of form stable implants have made them the first choice, even though these implants are costlier than regular implants.

    Implant Shape, Size, and Texture

Breast implants are available in anatomical as well as round shape. Round implants will tend to make the breast appear fuller. The shape will remain same all over, which will reduce the risk of the implant rotating out of place. Anatomical shape offers the advantage of a tapered, natural looking projection.
Implants are available in sizes ranging from 120 cc to 960 cc, and in smooth and textured surface. Patients should choose an optimal combination in close consultation with their breast augmentation surgeon.

Why Choose a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon?

    Surgical Experience

The surgeon should ideally have the necessary experience in performing various types of tummy tuck surgery, including traditional, partial, endoscopic, and circumferential abdominoplasty. If the patient requires a combination of tummy tuck with other surgical or non-surgical procedures, the surgeon should be able to offer the best options.

    Past Performance
Patient testimonials and tummy tuck before and after photos are indicative of how successfully the surgeon has performed tummy tuck procedures in the past. For a new patient, it is important to know insights about the surgeon and the staff from the perspective of a previous patient. The patient should request for this information from the surgeon during the initial consultation.

    Hospital Privileges

The surgeon should ideally have hospital privileges at one or more leading hospitals in the local area. In the unlikely event of an emergency, the patient will have access to hospital care. Secondly, hospitals check the surgeon’s background rigorously before granting them staff privileges. In that sense, this becomes another reassurance for the patient that they are in safe hands.

    Personalized Care

Tummy tuck surgery is a personal journey for a patient. They should try to choose a surgeon with whom they are comfortable with and enjoy stellar and a comfortable rapport with. If the surgeon is committed to providing personalized care and attention to the patient, addressing their concerns carefully, and investing in the relationship, the patient will have a more satisfying treatment experience.

Before and after pictures in case of Silhouette InstaLift refer to a set of images pertaining to an earlier patient who has undergone the same procedure with successful results. The set includes images taken prior to the procedure and after the procedure at a stage when the full effects of InstaLift are clearly established.
The treatment provider will take care to obtain these pictures with the full consent of the patient and will present them before new patients in an appropriate manner. The patient’s identity may be kept confidential in most cases. The only purpose of the provider in this endeavor is to educate new patients about all aspects of InstaLift and help them make an informed decision.

    Advantages

A new patient who wants to choose InstaLift in place of traditional plastic surgery procedures such as facelift can have apprehensions about how effective this minimally invasive treatment option may turn out to be. The patient would like to be sure whether InstaLift procedure can meet their personal aesthetic goals and provide the right kind of rejuvenated look to their face.
Some patients may need slightly more extensive treatment than others, depending on their aesthetic needs and the area to be treated. In some cases, the provider may recommend InstaLift in conjunction with other procedures such as Botox. Cost Comparison with Surgery

A traditional facelift plastic surgery procedure will cost significantly more than a minimally invasive treatment such as Silhouette InstaLift. While facelift is usually performed with the patient under general anesthesia or IV sedation, Silhouette InstaLift will only involve small local anesthesia. General anesthesia will entail the fee of anesthesiologist or a certified anesthetist nurse. This cost will be avoided in the case of InstaLift treatment.
Facelift surgery may be performed at a hospital or an accredited ambulatory center in most cases. The fee charged by the surgical venue will be added to the overall costs of the procedure. InstaLift, on the other hand, can be performed in-office or at a private surgical suite, which will be much more cost-effective.
Pre- and post-operative costs involved a traditional facelift plastic surgery will typically include the costs of medical tests, prescription drugs, surgical accessories, and post-operative visit to the surgeon’s office. All these costs are almost entirely avoided in case of a non-surgical InstaLift procedure.
Facelift surgery will usually involve a downtime of at least one week. This can have cost implications for working people. Silhouette InstaLift, on the other hand, is simple, 30-minute procedure, involving almost no post-operative discomfort or downtime. The fee charged by a plastic surgeon for facelift will usually be considerable higher than what they may charge for a Silhouette InstaLift procedure.
MBody receives patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas for Silhouette InstaLift and various other surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures.

    Financial Factors

The monetary amount of Silhouette InstaLift procedure can differ between two practices and even between two patients at the same practice. Where the practice is located will be an important factor in determining the actual cost. Practices located in prime cities and leading urban centers will usually have a higher cost of living than a practice located in a smaller town or an interior region. This will have an impact on the average cost of most types of products and services, including cosmetic procedures such as InstaLift.
Depending on the patient’s personal aesthetic needs and the amount of surface area to be treated, multiple sutures may be required in the InstaLift treatment. The monetary amount of treatment may slightly vary on such basis from one patient to another. Some patients may combine the procedure with other surgical or non-surgical procedures such as Botox, brow lift, or dermal fillers. A combined package may be more cost-effective in some cases.

    • Lifting effect: As soon as the suture is applied, the treatment provider will reshape the target area by compressing and elevating the facial tissue. This allows for the creation of a discreet, natural looking and immediate lifting effect.
    • Regenerating effect: A key component of the suture is polylactic acid. When this component is absorbed in the treated areas, it will help to restore shapeliness to the face. It produces a gradual and natural regenerating effect.

    How does it Work?

Silhouette Soft will not only restore smoother and more toned skin to counter the effects of aging, but will also help to create a more shapely face. Without any use of plastic surgery, the treatment combines lifting and regenerating effects to create facial rejuvenation.
The lifting effect occurs immediately at the time of adjusting the suture. Once the suture has been inserted, the treatment provider applies slight pressure in the target area. With this pressure, the provider will reshape the surface of the skin in a desirable manner and make it visibly smoother.
Polylactic acid in Silhouette Soft is completely biocompatible with human beings, and also biodegradable. This allows for the safe use of this application to create regeneration of facial tissue. When the suture is applied, the polylactic acid will stimulate the new production of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin. This will improve volume in the depleted areas, restoring facial shape in a gradual and natural manner.

    Quick Procedure

Silhouette Soft treatment can be completed in about 30 minutes flat. The treatment provider will apply a small local anesthetic, and then insert the suture beneath the skin to a depth of about 3 to 5 mm. No incisions are involved because the suture is inserted using a fine needle. The suture is held in its place with absorbable cones oriented in opposite directions.
Once the suture has been applied, the provider will perform a gentle compression of the facial tissue to reshape it by hand and to create the required lifting effect. The non-inserted ends of the suture are cut off at this point. Depending on the patient’s needs and the extent of treatable area, one or more sutures may be applied.
