Proven Safety and Effectiveness
Kybella by Kythera recently became the first and only injectable treatment approved by the FDA to reduce moderate to severe fat deposits under the chin. Kybella has been created specifically to treat submental fat in a targeted, non-surgical manner.
Its safety and effectiveness has been demonstrated through extensive clinical tests and trials, which led to its approval by the FDA. Positive feedback from both patients and treatment providers, in addition to successful test results, have led to advanced practices such as MBody adopting this treatment and offering it to the right candidates for submental fat reduction.
How does Kybella Work?
The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the human body. This compound supports the body’s natural process to break down dietary fat and enable its absorption. When Kybella medication is injected directly into the submental fat tissue, it leads to the isolation and destruction of the fat cell membranes, and their gradual reduction from the body.
It is important to receive an advanced and innovative procedure such as Kybella injections from an expert provider. MBody, led by board certified plastic surgeons, is a premier practice receiving patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, and nearby areas for Kybella treatment.
Selecting a Treatment Provider
Kybella injectable treatment requires high precision and controlled delivery of medication in the right volumes to ensure safe and desirable outcomes. Amy G. Egan, M.D., M.P.H., deputy director of the Office of Drug Evaluation III in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, recommends that patients should receive Kybella treatment only from licensed healthcare professionals.
Egan further points out that patients should remember Kybella is specifically approved by the FDA for the treatment of submental fat. It is not yet determined whether it may be suitable for treating unwanted fats in other parts of the body.
Procedure
The treatment provider will administer Kybella injections directly into the targeted fat tissue underneath the chin. Multiple injections are usually administered in one treatment sessions. A patient may receive a maximum of six treatments, spaced at least a month apart from each other. Each treatment session will last for about 15 to 20 minutes. At present, Kybella drug is available only in single patient use vials. It should not be diluted or mixed with any other compounds.
