    Nipple And Areola Reduction Surgery

    Nipple Reduction Surgery

Nipple And Areola Reduction Surgery Breasts that are well-shaped and symmetrical with proportionate areolas and nipples contribute to the physical attractiveness of a woman. Many women choose to enhance the appearance of their breast through nipple and areola reduction surgery or a breast lift or breast augmentation.

Many women notice that with age, their breasts begin to sag. This may also occur following breastfeeding. As a result of the sagging, the nipple position moves to a level below the inframammary fold or the fold under the breast. In such instances, the surgeon may advise a breast lift with areola reduction surgery.

Modern Body Contouring & Laser Center, led by board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton M. Sundin and Dr. Reps B. Sundin, provides nipple and areola reduction surgery to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredericksburg, and surrounding locations.

Who Should Choose Nipple and Areola Reduction?

In their younger years, most women find their nipples are well positioned and proportional to the size of their breasts. The areolae too are symmetrical and regular in shape. Changes set in with age and breastfeeding.

You may consider areola and nipple reduction cosmetic surgery if you have:

    • Protruding, droopy, or long nipples
    • Asymmetrical areolae or nipples
    • Areolae disproportionate to the breasts
    • Puffy or irregular shaped areolae

What You Should Know About Nipple and Areola Reduction Surgery?

Nipple and areola reduction plastic surgery are performed as single procedures or in combination with other breast enhancement surgery. Depending on the extent of the entire procedure, the surgeon will choose to do it under local or general anesthesia.

In areola reduction surgery, surgeons remove a ring of tissue from around the areola using measurements to ensure symmetry of both areolae. Following this, they close the cuts using sutures in a way that avoids visible scars.

    What to Expect During Recovery?

Nipple and areola reduction surgery does not require hospitalization and you will be sent home the same day. It is prudent to have someone to help you during the first few days following the surgery.

Mild pain or discomfort is normal after the procedure, and your doctor will prescribe pain medication to deal with it. You may experience some bruising and swelling along with tingling or numbness in the operated area, but this generally subsides after a few weeks.

Your doctor may apply a special dressing to maintain the nipple in position. You may also have to wear a surgical bra for a few weeks post-surgery. Most people return to their normal routine after a week or two and even get back to work in a few weeks.

What are the Benefits of Areola and Nipple Surgery?

Many women suffer from a lack of confidence when they are unhappy with how their breasts look. Women who undergo nipple and areola reduction procedures report greater self-esteem due improved breast appearance.

When combined with breast enhancement procedures such as breast lift or augmentation or reduction to meet your expectations, these procedures make you feel more attractive.
