Nanofat And PRP Injections For Hair Loss

Nanofat And PRP Injections For Hair LossHair restoration involves the combination of nanofat with PRP, which is injected into the scalp. The application of nanofat, along with PRP, helps miniaturized hair follicles to become larger and healthier, creating more robust hair growth.

Nanofat enhances the proliferation rate of human follicular cells, and PRP contains growth factors that stimulate rapid angiogenesis and localized cell growth.

Modern Body Contouring & Laser Center (MBody), led by board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton M. Sundin and Dr. Reps B. Sundin, provides advanced nanofat based treatments to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredericksburg, and surrounding locations.

    The Procedure

Adipose-derived stem cell-conditioned medium (ADSC-CM) is loaded with growth factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor, platelet-derived growth factor, hepatocyte growth factor, and insulin-like growth factor. Vascular endothelial growth factor manages hair growth and follicle size via angiogenesis. Hepatocyte growth factor impacts the cyclic growth of hair follicles.

Platelet-derived growth factor stimulates and maintains the anagen stage of hair follicles. The insulin-like growth factor manages the hair growth cycle and differentiation of hair shafts. Treatment with adipose-derived stem cell-conditioned medium involves each growth factor activating hair follicles and contributing to increasing the number of hairs in patients with alopecia.

Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) has been proven to have various growth factors. PRP therapy involves accumulating the candidate’s blood and spinning it down into a concentrate of plasma that has a high platelet concentration.

Subsequently, this is injected back into the candidate’s scalp. Studies indicate enhanced growth following hair transplant surgery and improved hair counts when used in male and female pattern hair loss.

In this procedure, a tiny amount of fat is liposuctioned in the abdomen region in a minimally invasive manner. This fat is then liquefied and missed with highly concentrated PRP.

The objective of nanofat injection, in combination with PRP, is to reverse the initial stages of hair loss developed by bald spots, thinning hair, and receding hairlines.

Concerns Addressed with Nanofat and PRP

Nanofat and PRP injections for hair loss can address the following concerns:

    • Receding hairline
    • Thinning hair
    • Bald spots

The two significant benefits of this treatment are:

    • Reduced rejection
    • Reduced allergic responses

    Recovery

No special recovery is necessary after this procedure. A majority of patients will be able to resume their regular routine in around two days. Compression garments are to be worn, which are particularly meant for drainage of residual anesthetic solution for the sites of liposuction.

    Suitable Candidates

Appropriate candidates for nanofat and PRP injections for hair loss are in the initial stages of hair loss. Candidates should have reasonable expectations as the outcomes can differ between patients, and the permanence of outcomes may not be assured.

Nanofat and PRP injections are not suitable for patients with hypofibrinogenemia, hemodynamic instability, excessively low blood count, or who experience hair loss due to drugs, stress, or medical treatment as these can be reversed.

    Side Effects

The side effects from nanofat and PRP injections for hair loss may include pinpoint bleeding, minimal pain, and redness when the injections are being delivered. Certain patients report a “full” or “tight” sensation in the scalp right after the injections that may last up to one day. In exceptional cases, patients will complain of a mild headache the next day.
