Liposuction body contouring procedure ranks on the very top of the list of most popular plastic surgery procedures in the US. For more than three decades, liposuction surgeons have provided attractive and youthful looking body contours to women and men suffering from stubborn fat pockets in certain areas of the body. Liposuction techniques over the years have become less invasive and more targeted.
Customization is one of the important benefits of liposuction. It can be tailored to suit the unique anatomical and aesthetic needs of a patient. The procedure can be performed independently or in conjunction with other surgeries. Board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton Sundin and Dr. Reps Sundin provide liposuction to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, and surrounding locations.
Innovative Techniques
A number of innovative and advanced techniques are used today to perform liposuction plastic surgery.
Traditional Liposuction
Traditional liposuction may be recommended when the patient needs to remove significant amounts of fat in one or more areas. The surgeon will physically manipulate the targeted fat tissue using a slim cannula, which is inserted through an incision placed discreetly. The unwanted fat cells will be dislodged and then removed through a suction pump attached to the other end of the cannula.
Tumescent Liposuction
Tumescent technique is highly popular today because it involves smaller incisions, making the procedure less invasive and less complicated. The surgeon will apply a liberal volume of anesthetic solution through the incision to cause swelling of the targeted fat cells. The cells are then isolated and removed more easily. Bleeding risk is minimal with this technique, and it only requires local anesthesia. Less pain and less downtime are involved in tumescent liposuction.
Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction
Ultrasound technology is used by some plastic surgeons to perform liposuction in a less invasive manner. Ultrasound energy will generate controlled heat, causing the fat cells to liquefy. This will make it easier to suction larger and denser fat tissue. MBody receives patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, and nearby areas for liposuction.
Laser-Assisted Liposuction
Laser technology is applied in several surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures to create less invasive and more precise outcomes. Laser-assisted liposuction can help to achieve safer results in sensitive areas such as the cheeks, chin, neck, jowls, and arms.
Abdominal Etching
Of late, an innovative liposuction technique called abdominal etching has become popular. This procedure is designed to enhance the appearance of abdominal muscles, and create an attractive ‘six pack’ look. The muscles are outlined and layered up with a thin film of fat to obscure the muscles and reveal a chiseled look.
Recovery and Results
Liposuction may involve downtime ranging from five to 10 days, depending on the amount of fat removed and the number of areas treated. Initial pain and soreness in the incision areas can be treated with pain medications. Results of liposuction will establish gradually, and will be sustainable for the long term provided the patient maintains a terrific diet and exercise routine.
