When it comes to the nation’s history, DC grabs all the limelight, but visitors to the region would be surprised by the rich history that Northern Virginia offers. This border region promises diverse cultural experiences and some of the most unique historical references.
This southern neighbor of DC has had some of the greatest American presidents who built their own plantation homes here. Mount Vernon, the grand home of George Washington is a top attraction. The area also offers a wide range of cuisines from all over the world.

While this Virginia hotel borrows inspiration from Europe, it continues to celebrate its roots. Located just off Interstate 66, this Fairfax, Virginia hotel features on-site dining and jogging paths. Dulles International Airport is 16.1 km away. Airport
Two commercial airports are located in Northern Virginia, Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Reagan National Airport (DCA). They are the busiest civilian airports in Virginia.

Fairfax County is chockablock with museums, historic sites, performance venues, and unique natural wonders. Apart from George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens, you can visit the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, the Workhouse Arts Center, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, and the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts.
Visitors should not miss the Virginia Museum of the Civil War or the Shenandoah Valley Cultural Heritage Museum. Visiting the Pentagon and Arlington Cemetery is also a memorable experience.
Things to Do
A well-preserved historic district on the Potomac waterfront, Old Town Alexandria is the heart of the city. Old Town offers some of the finest chef-driven restaurants; an eclectic arts culture, including the famed Torpedo Factory Art Center; a vibrant boutique scene; several boat tours and water taxis; and unique cocktails and craft brews.
Northern Virginia is also a hot destination for shoppers, featuring upscale shopping malls as well as bargain outlets and winery shops. The region is considered “Horse Country” with polo matches, horse shows, and steeplechase races.
Marriott Ranch in Hume offers horses to ride and trap shooting. If you are looking for an upscale resort, you could try Landsdowne in Leesburg. There are parks and natural areas for outdoor enthusiasts to explore, including mountains, lakes, and waterfalls.
