Facelift Surgery Options (Northern VA / Washington DC)Facelift Plastic Surgery

Facelift surgery, also known as rhytidectomy, is a procedure used to mitigate the appearance of facial wrinkles and other visible signs of aging, with the objective of enhancing the overall appearance of the jaw and face.

Facelift plastic surgery helps reverse the adverse effects of stress, time, and exposure to the elements.

Modern Body Contouring & Laser Center, led by board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton M. Sundin and Dr. Reps B. Sundin, provides facelift to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredericksburg, and surrounding locations.

    Types of Facelifts

    Traditional Full Facelift

A full facelift offers patients the most complete outcomes. This procedure helps correct deep creases beneath the eyes, sagging around the cheeks, lines around the mouth, excess fat, and skin under the jowls, chin, and more.

This procedure targets a larger area and therefore requires a longer incision. It typically extends from the temple, around the ear, and down the neck. Traditional facelifts can treat more pronounced signs of aging. This makes it sought-after by patients in their 50’s and 60’s.

    Mid Facelift

In a mid facelift, a surgeon can lift and tighten the tissues beneath the eyes and around the cheeks. When performing this procedure, the surgeon will place incisions that are similar to those used in a full facelift, but they will usually be deeper.

This technique enables them to lift the muscles that are usually not addressed by a traditional facelift. In addition, they may use facial implants or fat grafting to improve contours and develop more defined cheekbones.

As this plastic surgery procedure does not treat all signs of aging, it is usually more suitable for women in their 30’s and 40’s who are only seeking to rejuvenate their appearance.

    Mini Facelift

Mini facelifts involve tinier incisions and a briefer recovery period. For this reason, this procedure is sometimes called the “weekend facelift.” Similar to the mid facelift, this surgery targets a smaller region, mainly the lower cheeks, neck, and jaw.

The surgeon will typically place the incisions along the hairline and behind the ear. They will lift the muscles, eliminate unwanted fatty pockets, and remove excess skin through these incisions.

Many surgeons undertake mini facelifts using endoscopic techniques. This procedure is also popular among relatively younger patients who are showing the early signs of aging.

    Lower Facelift

Lower facelifts target the bottom third of the face, as the name suggests. This surgery can dramatically correct jowls, reduce deep nasolabial folds, lift the sagging mouth corners, and enhance the jaw.

The procedure is similar to various types of facelifts, and the surgeon will place incisions along the patient’s hairline and ears. Lower facelifts are appropriate for patients of all age brackets who seek to reduce signs of aging and enjoy a more youthful look.

    Thread Facelift

Thread lifts offer a quick and minimally invasive alternative to full facelifts. In this procedure, the surgeon develops tiny stitches right below the skin to lift the underlying muscles. Thread facelifts are usually undertaken without anesthesia and do not leave behind any noticeable scars.

The complete treatment takes around one to two hours, and it is sometimes called the “lunchtime lift.” This treatment is more appropriate for patients in their 30’s, and 40’s who only seek minor improvements in their appearance.
