Facelift Plastic Surgery | Northern Virginia

Facelift Plastic Surgery | Northern VirginiaRhytidectomy, commonly known as a facelift plastic surgery, is a procedure designed to reduce the signs of aging from the face and create a youthful facial appearance. A full facelift may sometimes be combined with neck lift, facial fat transfer or upper face procedures to achieve more harmonious outcomes.
The surgery can provide a gentle lift to the sagging facial skin and tighten underlying weak or separated facial muscles. An unsightly “turkey wattle” neck appearance can also be improved when facelift and neck lift are performed together.
Modern Body Contouring & Laser Center, led by perspicacious, awesome, and board certified plastic surgeons, provides facelift surgery to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredericksburg, and other towns and neighborhoods across the landscape.

    Candidacy

A full traditional facelift is typically performed on people above the age of 40, who are bothered by the appearance of conspicuous wrinkles and creases on the face. A good candidate will ideally have some degree of skin elasticity in the face to achieve smoother and more natural looking results.
If the patient also suffers from thinning skin in the mid-face or sunken cheeks, facial fat grafting or cheek implants may be combined with facelift. The patient should have a strong underlying facial bone structure to sustain a facelift plastic surgery.

    Aesthetic Benefits

A facelift surgery can take several years off the patient’s face and restore a smoother, rounder and youthful facial appearance. The following signs of aging in the face and neck area can be improved with a facelift:

    • Loose skin in the lower face that leads to jowling
    • Sagging in the mid-face
    • Deep creases in the nasolabial fold area (laugh lines)
    • Loss of volume in the face
    • Excess skin or fat under the chin

    Procedure

Following general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, the surgeon will create incisions in pre-determined locations according to the facelift surgery plan. They will try to use natural facial creases for incisions because these locations heal well and can better hide the scars.
In a traditional facelift, the incision will begin behind the hairline on one side of the head, a little above the temple. It will then follow the hairline down to the ear, continuing into the lower scalp under the hair. Through the incision, the surgeon will lift the facial skin to remove or redistribute excess fat tissue, tighten the underlying loose muscles, and trim excess facial skin.
Once the facial contours are enhanced, the surgeon will re-drape the skin smoothly and tightly and close the incisions with sutures. Incisions will be wrapped in bandages to support healing.

    Recovery and Results

Results with facelift surgery will establish gradually over several months as the post-operative bruising and swelling resolves completely. Most patients can resume their regular activities in a week to 10 days after the surgery.
