Fat Transfer Buttock Augmentation Risks and Safety Information

Fat Transfer Buttock Augmentation Risks and Safety InformationThe popularity of fat transfer buttock augmentation plastic surgery stems from the fact that the procedure is less invasive and less risky because it utilizes the patient’s own body tissue. However, the patient should still be aware of the potential risks and complications in order to make an informed choice.
MBody, led by board certified plastic surgeons, provides fat transfer buttock augmentation to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredericksburg, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, and other areas that are not named in this part of Virginia.

    Liposuction Risks

Once the fat has been extracted for transfer to the buttocks, the chance of complications is minimal because the fat is all natural. A skilled surgeon will be able to delicately recontour and lift the buttocks using fat transfer.
But the risk of complications mainly exists at the time of liposuction for fat extraction. If performed incorrectly, it could lead to fluid collection, skin discoloration, skin irregularities, scabbing, dryness, and fat reabsorption.

    Other Potential Risks

Just like any plastic surgery procedure, fat transfer buttock augmentation carries certain risks:

    Infection

The surgical facility and the surgical instruments must be properly sterilized to minimize the risk of infection during surgery. The injection sites should be protected against dirt for a few days after the procedure. If the patient experiences persistent pain, redness, fever, foul smell or green or yellow drainage, they should promptly get in touch with the surgeon.

    Unfavorable Scarring

In case of fat transfer buttock augmentation, the scarring is usually minimal. But if the injections are placed incorrectly or larger incisions are used for liposuction, it could create more conspicuous scarring. A skilled plastic surgeon will almost always be able to avoid this risk.

    Fat Reabsorption

During fat transfer butt augmentation, some of the injected fat may get reabsorbed, which could diminish the results. Reabsorption can be minimized when the patient avoids putting pressure on the buttocks for about two weeks, and wears compression garment full-time during this period. Placement of smaller injections into diverse sites of healthy tissue will also help to improve absorption.

    Seroma or Fluid Accumulation

Accumulation of blood and fluids underneath the incision areas can create more swelling and increase the risk of infection. Proper incision care and correct use of drain tubes will significantly reduce the risks of seroma. If this condition develops, the surgeon will suction out the accumulated serous fluid.

    Excessive Bleeding

Poor healing, improperly sutured wounds, or anticoagulant drugs may cause the wounds to bleed excessively. The patient should avoid vigorous activities in the first few weeks after buttock augmentation to minimize bleeding risks.

    Tissue Necrosis

In a few cases, tissue modification can inadvertently limit their blood and nutrition supply, resulting in tissue death. Skin imperfections, stiffness and discoloration may occur due to this cell destruction. The tissue affected by necrosis may have to be surgically removed.

    Prolonged Numbness

Some loss of sensation following fat transfer buttock augmentation is normal, and the sensitivity will gradually return on its own. However, if nerve damage has occurred during the surgery, it may lead to prolonged or permanent numbness in the affected area.
