Patients should note that recovery is an important part of the treatment process and must not be taken lightly.

Recovery Planning
Some advance planning prior to the recovery stage can ensure more comfort for the patient, and they can focus completely on their recovery. Patient should take the following steps in advance for a quicker and easier recovery after rhinoplasty plastic surgery:
- Arrange for a friend or family member to drive the patient home after the procedure.
- If the patient has little kids, arrange for help for a few days or have someone to assist the patient at home.
- Working individuals should apply for at least one week off from work and another week with restricted movements.
- Keep a supply of cold compresses at home to minimize post-operative swelling.
- Any important household tasks or work responsibilities should preferably be completed before the surgery.
Instructions for Recovery
It is important that the patient should follow the post-op instructions of the plastic surgeon as diligently as possible. This will help to ensure a safer and faster recovery. Pain and discomfort during recovery can be cut down with the following measures:
- Stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids through the day
- Use cold compresses several times a day to reduce swelling
- Take adequate rest during the first week, but perform short walks and light activities at home
- Refrain from lifting heavy weights or doing any strenuous activities for at least two weeks
- If any abnormal symptoms such as fever, pus in the wounds, severe pain in the incision area or excessive swelling are noticed, contact the surgeon immediately
First Week after Surgery
Bruising, swelling, headaches and nosebleeds may occur in the first two to three days. The surgeon will prescribe pain relievers for the first week. The first day after surgery, the patient should rest with the head in an elevated position. Blowing the nose should be avoided for the first two to three days.

New Few Weeks
After the first week, the first follow-up appointment will take place to monitor healing and to remove the nasal packing and sutures. Bruising will disappear by the second week, and swelling will begin to subside. Patients can usually return to work in the second week. Vigorous exercises should be avoided for at least two to four weeks to allow for complete healing.
