What Does a Buttocks Augmentation Procedure Involve?
Buttocks augmentation surgery is a relatively straightforward procedure that is performed at a credited hospital under general anesthesia. The procedure usually takes between 90 minutes and three hours, depending on the scale of desired augmentation. It involves two basic steps:
First, excess fatty tissue is harvested from one or more donor sites on the patient’s body, usually the abdomen and/or thighs. Similar to a traditional liposuction procedure, a cannula (thin surgical tube) is inserted through tiny incisions in the skin and the fatty tissue is carefully suctioned out of the body. This step has the added benefit of leaving the donor areas slimmer and more contoured!
Second, the donor fatty tissue is sterilized, purified, and processed to ensure it is safe for reinjection and will bond with existing tissues in the buttocks. For most patients, about 25% of harvested fat cells will be utilized in the fat grafting process. The processed fatty tissue is then precisely injected into the musculature and deep fat of the buttocks, utilizing an extremely small needle to achieve a smooth, natural, and even appearance, thus creating perfect curves right where you want them.
Proper recovery after a Brazilian Butt Lift is essential to enable to grafted fatty tissue to heal in the proper shape. During the first week after the procedure, you will need lots of bed rest and should drink plenty of fluids. You will be asked to wear a compression garment 24 hours a day for the first few weeks after surgery, and avoid sitting directly on the buttocks and driving for at least three weeks. Most patients find they need to take at least a week or two off work, if not more, especially in a job that requires sitting.
