Injectable Dermal Fillers Guide – Which One Do You Need?

    Dermal Fillers

Injectable Dermal Fillers Guide – Which One Do You Need? There are several visible signs of facial aging that can be directly traces to loss of volume. Lines become etched as facial tissues start thinning out around the mouth and nose. Cheeks may also start to appear hollow. Dermal injectables can help in replacing this lost volume to plump lips, smooth wrinkles, and restore your face to its youthful appearance.

There are several different types of dermal filler available in the market. It can get difficult for you to choose one that best works for you without consulting with an experienced cosmetic surgeon. Every dermal filler injection is uniquely formulated and has a certain specific density, texture, and injection depth. This means that different dermal fillers work best on different areas of concern.

Modern Body Contouring & Laser Center, led by board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton M. Sundin and Dr. Reps B. Sundin, provides FDA approved dermal filler injections to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredericksburg, and surrounding locations.

    Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers

Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the skin and is useful for keeping the skin hydrated and plump. HA dermal fillers are gel-like and soft in nature. They offer temporary results lasting for 6 – 12 months. The body naturally and gradually absorbs the HA particles. You won’t feel discomfort since most HA fillers come infused with lidocaine (a topical numbing agent).

These are a few FDA approved hyaluronic acid fillers:

    • Juvéderm XC, VOLUMA, VOLBELLA, VOLLURE
    • Belotero Balance
    • Restylane, Restylane Silk, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Refyne, and Restylane Defyne

    Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Fillers

CaHa or calcium hydroxylapatite is another naturally occurring compound found mostly in the bones. The calcium particles as part of a dermal filler are nearly microscopic in nature and are suspended in a smooth gel. CaHa fillers are thicker than hyaluronic acid fillers. They tend to last longer in most patients up to 12 months.

Calcium hydroxylapatite works in stimulating production of natural collagen as well and is used for wrinkles and deeper lines. Radiesse is an FDA approved calcium hydroxylapatite filler injectable.

    Poly-L-lactic Acid Fillers

Poly-L-lactic acid is a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic substance. It is proven safe to be used in the body. These fillers are categorized as collagen stimulators since their main purpose is to smooth fine lines. The dermal filler gets absorbed by the body within a few days. Results can last for as long as 2 years following the treatment. Sculptra Aesthetic is an FDA approved dermal filler.

    Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) Fillers

Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) is a biocompatible synthetic substance. PMMA is in the form of a tiny ball or microsphere in dermal fillers. It remains beneath the skin to indefinitely provide support. Collagen is present in PMMA fillers to provide firmness and structure. Bellafill or Artefill is an FDA approved PMMA filler.

Autologous Fat Injections For Facial Fat Grafting

This dermal injectable requires surgery and provides results lasting several years. Fat from donor sites is harvested, purified and reinjected in the temples, cheeks, lower eyelids, and other areas for increasing volume.
