Local Anesthesia Procedure: Fat Grafting Of The Face
Facial fat injections can be considered by individuals looking to rejuvenate their face without undergoing invasive procedures. Microlipoinjection is a popular facial fat sculpting procedure which can restore attractive facial contours, especially in the cheeks, chin, and under-eye area. The procedure is useful for adding volume to the lips as well.
Modern Body Contouring and Laser Center, led by board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton M. Sundin and Dr. Reps B. Sundin, provides safe and proven local anesthesia cosmetic procedures to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredericksburg, and surrounding communities.
Microlipoinjection or Autologous Fat Transfer
This is a plastic surgery procedure, which makes use of the body’s surplus fat for plumping sunken or emaciated facial areas. The procedure can be used for adding volume where needed. Autologous means using the body’s own tissue or fat. The procedure has a three-step process.
Your cosmetic surgeon will first suction surplus fat from donor areas, such as the jowls, thighs, abdomen, and buttocks. The fat will then be purified and cleansed for isolating the most superior fat cells. The cleansed fat tissue will then be injected in the targeted area. This is also known as fat transplantation.
Target Areas
Fat injection treatment can be used for treating creases on the forehead and in between the eyebrows. It can be used for filling hollows under the eyes as well. Fat injection can improve nose contours, temples, jaw line, and the area between the upper lip and nose.
Fat transfer cosmetic surgery is useful in correcting hollow or sunken cheeks and scars. It can be used on the face and neck. You may get noticeable improvement with just a single fat injection. Other areas may require more than one injection.
Other Cosmetic Benefits
Lack of volume can result in the formation of wrinkles and deep furrows through the face. In particular, lines begin to run from the corners of the nose to the mouth sides. Fat transfer offers a natural, safe, and long-lasting solution for a more youthful appearance.
Fat grafting is a common solution to remove deep scars that usually result from acne. Fat cells can be directly injected in the scar to create a smoother appearance and fill uneven texture.
Procedure Steps for Facial Fat Transfer
Fat Removal
The surgeon will use liposuction for removing surplus fat from the donor site. Maximum number of undamaged fat cells can be collected through very low suction liposuction.
Isolating Fat Cells
The fat is then spun through a centrifuge at very high speeds. This is done to separate the fat cells from body fluids. Damaged fat cells are removed leaving only whole, undamaged, and cleansed fat cells. These are used during the fat transfer.
Reinjecting Fat
Fat cells are reinjected in the treatment area. Your doctor will identify the fat injection site with the intent to correct imperfections and create new contours. Separate hypodermic syringe will be used for injecting fat at varying depths for natural looking results.
