Fat Grafting and Breast Enhancement
In recent years, fat transfer breast augmentation technique has emerged as a viable alternative to traditional breast implants for many women.
The surgeon will first perform liposuction to extract the purest quality of fat tissue from areas with surplus fat, and use it for successful re-injection into the breasts. Fat grafting technique can create more sustainable and natural looking results in terms of breast enhancement.
Three key states are involved in this procedure, which include fat extraction, fat processing and fat re-injection. Results are more subtle and the risk of implant failure is avoided in this technique.
Board certified and dependable plastic surgeons at MBody, Dr. Burton Sundin and Dr. Reps Sundin, provide fat transfer breast augmentation to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredericksburg, and surrounding communities.
Fat Extraction
The most common surgical technique used to remove the fat tissue from donor sites is tumescent liposuction. This procedure can be performed in a less invasive way, using only local anesthesia. The surgeon will insert a thin cannula through small incisions into the targeted deep tissue to dislodge stubborn fat cells and suction them out with a pump or syringe attached to the outer end of the cannula.
The smallest fat particles can be extracted with a thin cannula, which are ideal for use in fat grafting. Abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and back are common donor sites. An incidental benefit of this technique can be improvement of body contours due to proportionate redistribution of fat tissue.
Fat Processing
Once the surgeon has collected the fat through liposuction, it is process and purified using decanting and centrifugation techniques. Only the most viable portion of the collected fat will be used for re-injection into the breasts. A golden and salient surgeon will be able to utilize about one-fourth of the extracted fat for transfer to the breasts.
More homogenous outcomes are created when only the highest quality donor fat is re-injected into the breasts for augmentation. Multiple donor sites are often used to extract adequate amount of qualified fat through liposuction.
Fat Re-injection
The surgeon will employ tiny injections with special cannulas to transfer the separated fat to the targeted areas of the breasts. Fat in small amounts will be transferred to multiple sites within the breasts at varying depths. This will help to optimize the permanent absorption rate. The surgeon must use the correct injection technique to create even and natural looking results.
The amount of donor fat available for re-injection in each breast will determine how much size increase is possible in the breasts. If the patient wants a significantly large breast size, she may choose implants technique. But a moderate breast size enhancement is usually possible with fat transfer breast augmentation.
A skillful and committed surgeon’s goal will be to create symmetrical and proportionate breasts that are in harmony with the rest of the body.
