    Liposuction Plastic Surgery Recovery

Liposuction Plastic Surgery Recovery | Richmond | Reston | ViennaLiposuction currently ranks at number two after breast augmentation among the most popular plastic surgery procedures in the US. Liposuction usually involves a relatively short recovery, but recovery time may vary between patients according to the extent of surgery performed. The surgeon will discuss the recovery aspect during the pre-op consultation.
MBody, led by board certified plastic surgeons, provides liposuction and various other cutting edge cosmetic procedures. Patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations have an opportunity to receive liposuction at MBody.

    Factors that Influence Recovery

Although in most cases, liposuction recovery will be smooth and quick, it will still be impacted by a number of factors. The amount of fat removed, the type of anesthesia applied, the location of the target area, the surgical technique used by the surgeon, and the patient’s natural healing ability will determine how fast the patient recovers from liposuction plastic surgery. In most cases, liposuction will be performed on an outpatient basis involving only local anesthesia.

    Immediate Post-Surgical Phase

Following the surgery, the patient should have someone to drive them back home. They should preferably also have a family member, friend or a hired help to assist at home in the first two to three days. Mild pain in the incision areas in the initial days can be managed with pain meds prescribed by the surgeon. Antibiotics and iron supplements may also be prescribed to some patients.
The plastic surgeon will provide a list of recovery instructions, which should be followed diligently to ensure safer and faster recovery. MBody receives patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas for liposuction.

    First Week

Immediately after the surgery, the treated area will be wrapped in bandages to minimize swelling and promote healing. An elastic support corset may be provided, which should be worn at least in the first week as per the surgeon’s advice. The bruising will be mild in most cases, but in more invasive liposuction cases, it may be more severe in the first week.
Swelling takes a longer time to disappear, but it will begin mitigating from the second week. In the first few weeks, the patient may feel numbness in the operated area, but the sensation will return on its own. The patient should expect to return to their daily routine in about one week, if liposuction has only been performed in one area. In case of multiple areas, the patient may require 10 to 14 days before resuming their regular activities.

    Long-term Recovery

Swelling will go away entirely after several weeks or months. During this period, subtle improvements will be progressively noticeable, but complete results will establish once the swelling has been entirely eliminated.
Results with liposuction are sustainable because the fat cells once removed from an area will not return. However, liposuction is not a substitute for diet or exercise, and a healthy and balance lifestyle must be followed to maintain the results for a long time.

Are You a Candidate for Liposuction?

Are You a Candidate for Liposuction? | Reston | Vienna | Chevy ChaseDuring the initial consultation for liposuction plastic surgery, the first goal of the surgeon will be to assess the patient’s candidacy and clear them for the procedure. Several aspects will be evaluated in this process in order to recommend liposuction to the right candidate only.
Board certified plastic surgeons at MBody provide liposuction to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations.

    Who should Undergo Liposuction?

A good candidate for liposuction will be someone who enjoys general good health, has a stable body weight within 25 pounds of their ideal weight, and suffers from unsightly fat bulges in specific areas of the body that have become resistant to exercise and diet. Individuals above the age of 18 who meet the basic fitness and health criteria would usually make good candidates for liposuction plastic surgery.

    Who should Avoid Liposuction?

The following individuals are not likely to make good candidates for liposuction:

    • Pregnant or nursing woman
    • An individual with a health concern that could pose risk during surgery or post-op healing
    • People who are unable to stop smoking before surgery as stipulated by the surgeon
    • Patients who are unable to discontinue or alter the schedule of certain prescription medications or blood thinners and herbal supplements before and after surgery
    • Individuals who have a known allergy to lidocaine, a local anesthetic used in tumescent liposuction

    Candidacy for Teens

In exceptional circumstances, the surgeon may approve candidate for a teen, especially after a substantial weight loss that may have left one or two lingering fat pockets. The plastic surgeon will evaluate the teen’s health, age, maturity and self-esteem to determine candidacy. Teen candidates will typically require contour correction in a limited area to address their self-esteem issues.

    Candidacy for Adults

Upper age limit for liposuction is not specifically defined, but any adult who enjoys a reasonably good health and fitness level may safely undergo liposuction. Some people first like to consult their primary care physician and then meet the liposuction surgeon to be more confident about their suitability to undergo this procedure.
The ideal candidate will have a fairly elastic skin in order to achieve optimal results with liposuction. Liposuction is only a fat reduction surgery, and not a skin tightening procedure. Therefore, if the patient has severe skin laxity, they may have to combine liposuction with a body lift surgery. This concern is more common among older patients than younger ones.
Patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas have an opportunity to receive liposuction at MBody.

    Reasonable Expectations

An ideal candidate for liposuction will have reasonable expectations, and will know what the procedure can or cannot do for them. Liposuction is not a weight loss surgery, and it cannot remove wrinkles, folds, cellulite, or stretch marks. Only about 10 pounds of fat from a localized area may be removed for safe results with liposuction.

Rhinoplasty (Nose Job Surgery) Before and After Photos | Northern Virginia

Rhinoplasty | Nose Job | Plastic Surgery | Before and After | RichmondRhinoplasty (Nose Job Surgery)

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is a plastic surgery procedure designed to improve the size and shape of the nose in harmony with other facial features. Rhinoplasty may appear to be a relatively minor procedure, but it involves intricacies and can significantly impact the overall facial appearance.
During the initial consultation, the surgeon will explain all aspects of rhinoplasty to the patient and may also present rhinoplasty before and after photographs. Board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton Sundin and Dr. Reps Sundin provide rhinoplasty to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, and surrounding areas.

What are Rhinoplasty Before and After Pictures?

Before and after pictures in case of rhinoplasty nose plastic surgery refer to a set of images belonging to an earlier patient who has undergone the same surgery with successful results. The set includes pictures taken before the surgery and after the surgery at a stage when the bruising, swelling and redness has disappeared and full results of rhinoplasty are visible.
The surgeon will ensure that these photographs are obtained with the express consent of the patient and presented before new patients in a discreet way. The identity of the original patient is usually not disclosed in this exercise. The purpose behind these photos is to educate new patients about various aspects of rhinoplasty and help them make an informed decision.
A picture truly does speak a thousand word. The use of digital technology has transformed humanity and the surgical field has capitalized on this digital trend. Having photos such as this on the website makes it so much easier for someone to know what they are contemplating and the capabilities of these doctors. Now plastic surgeons can focus more on their job and not so much explaining to people what they can do for them. Digital pictures does all this for them and saves them time and the patient anxiety.

See Rhinoplasty (Nose Job Surgery) Before and After Photos

    Advantages

When an individual seeks a rhinoplasty consultation, it is quite likely that they have a variety of concerns based upon what they may have read or heard from others about the procedure. The first goal of the plastic surgeon is to put their apprehensions to rest and provide them a clear description of the procedure and its potential effectiveness.
To facilitate the patient’s understanding, the surgeon can use rhinoplasty before and after photos as a visual aid. Appropriate photos may be presented for male, female, native or ethnic patients. MBody receives patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, and nearby areas for rhinoplasty.

    Realistic Expectations

In any cosmetic procedure, it is important to ensure that the patient does not misinterpret the surgeon’s explanations during the pre-op consultation process and keep unrealistic expectations. This risk can be countered when the surgeon presents rhinoplasty nose job before and after photos at the very outset.
With these photos, the patient will know clearly what the procedure can or cannot do for them. This will help them achieve higher satisfaction from the results, and mitigate the possibility of any disappointment occurring later on.

    Salient Digital Photos

While patients may have access to rhinoplasty before and after pictures through the Internet or plastic surgery publications, the surgeon has a choice to go the extra mile and provide rhinoplasty before and after photos on their official website.
This will enable potential patients to review the photos in digital format in the privacy and comfort of their home or office. If they feel encouraged after seeing the photos, they may consider visiting the surgeon’s office for a personal rhinoplasty consultation.

How to Prepare for Your Breast Augmentation Consultation

How to Prepare for Your Breast Augmentation Consultation | AshburnPre-operative consultation is an important part of breast augmentation plastic surgery. It is not an informational session, but creates the basis for the breast enhancement surgical plan. Therefore, the patient should be prepared to be actively involved in this process for her own benefit.
Board certified plastic surgeons at MBody provide breast augmentation to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations.

    What to Discuss during Consultation

The patient should preferably come prepared to make the most out of the breast augmentation plastic surgery consultation. She should be prepared to discuss key issues such as:

    • Why the patient wants to undergo breast augmentation, what are her expectations and what kind of results she is looking for
    • Any current medical conditions, previous medical or surgical treatments, and drug allergies
    • Current prescribed or other medications, herbal supplements, and vitamins that she may be taking
    • Current and past history of smoking, alcohol and drug use
    • Family history of breast cancer
    • Results of previous mammograms or biopsies

The patient should also be prepared for the surgeon’s questions regarding her health and risk factors, and make sure to provide accurate answers. She will have to go through a breast exam, including detailed measurements of their shape and size, skin laxity and skin type, and position of the areolas and nipples.
The initial consultation may also include taking of photos of the breasts. Experienced plastic surgeons at MBody receive patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas for breast augmentation.

    Understanding the Options

During the consultation, the surgeon will explain various aspects of breast augmentation surgery. If at this time, the patient clearly understands her options, she can make well-considered choices in consultation with the surgeon. It is natural to feel anxious or concerned about the new look or experience pre-operative stress. The patient should share her thoughts and feelings clearly with the surgeon so that best decisions can be taken.

Some of the key options in breast implant surgery include:

    • Silicone implants vs. Saline implants vs. Ultra Cohesive Silicone implants
    • Round shaped vs. Tear shaped breast implants
    • Smooth vs. Textured implants
    • Size of implants – from 120 cc to 960 cc
    • Implant over the muscle or under the muscle
    • Location of incisions

    Review Before and After Images

Prior to the consultation, the patient should try to review as many breast augmentation ‘before and after’ photos as possible from the Internet.
As a first step, she should check out the surgeon’s website to learn more about the procedure, and look for a Photo Gallery on the site. Even during the consultation process, the surgeon may present before and after photos, which she should go through carefully.

    Check Own Breasts

Prior to the consultation, the patient should take a good look at herself in the mirror. With a clear idea about her own breast anatomy, she will be in a better position to understand the surgeon’s perspective and recommendations about breast augmentation.

    Preparing for Breast Augmentation Surgery

Preparing for Breast Augmentation Surgery | Richmond | Ashburn |RestonThe preparation for breast augmentation plastic surgery procedure will begin once the surgeon has approved the patient’s candidacy. During the detailed pre-op consultation process, the surgeon will give a few specific instructions that should be followed as a part of preparation for the surgery.
A well-prepared patient will go through the procedure more easily and it will contribute to the overall success of the results. Board certified plastic surgeons at MBody provide breast augmentation to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations.

    Tips for Advance Preparation

The patient should consider the following suggestions to prepare for breast augmentation plastic surgery:

    • Collect all relevant information regarding medical history, and any current health conditions.
    • Make a list of all the medications, including prescription drugs, over the counter medicines such as aspirin and blood thinners, vitamins and herbal supplements that are being used currently.
    • Get a baseline mammogram done ahead of time as per the surgeon’s advice, if no recent mammograms are available. A mammogram with specialized views may be required, in addition to routine mammograms.
    • Arrange a talk between the surgeon and the personal physician for the adjustment of any prescription meds well in time.
    • Stop smoking a few weeks ahead of surgery, strictly as per the surgeon’s recommendation.
    • Complete any major or strenuous household chores or any other pressing tasks ahead of time so that the initial recovery period can be entirely stress-free.
    • Preferably, arrange someone to assist during the first few days of post-operative phase as well as someone who can drive the patient back home after the surgery and stay overnight for help.

Following the surgeon’s instructions to the letter during the pre- and post-operative phases will significantly benefit the patient. Not adhering to the instructions may increase the risk and create difficulties during the surgery as well as recovery.

    Common Instructions

Some of the instructions that a plastic surgeon may commonly advise to the patient as a part of preparation for breast augmentation will include:

    • Do not use aspirin, ibuprofen and NSAIDs for at least 10 days prior to the procedure.
    • Discontinue vitamin E, vitamin C, and any herbal supplements or remedies at least one month before surgery.
    • Do not wear makeup, nail polish, contact lenses, or jewelry or body piercings on the day of the surgery.
    • Do not wear any hair accessories that may contain metal, such as clips with metal springs.
    • Choose comfortable garments and shoes on the day of the surgery. Pants or shorts may be preferable and the top should button or zip in the front in order to avoid having to go over the head.
    • Do not consume alcohol for 24 hours prior to surgery.
    • Do not eat or drink anything for eight hours prior to surgery.
    • Diabetics should discuss their condition on the morning of the surgery.

    Breast Augmentation Plastic Surgery Steps

Breast Augmentation Plastic Surgery Steps | Richmond | Vienna | RestonAccording to the ASPS data, over five million breast augmentation plastic surgery procedures have been successfully carried out over the last 20 years. Breast augmentation currently ranks as the number one cosmetic surgery procedure in the US. The breast surgeon will explain the various steps involved in the procedure at the time of pre-op consultation.
The patient should know the procedure well in order to relieve any anxiety and to make informed choices. She should preferably also review images or videos related to the procedure. MBody, led by board certified plastic surgeons, provides breast augmentation to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations.

    Anesthesia

Most surgeons will prefer to use general anesthesia to perform breast augmentation plastic surgery. An anesthesiologist may be present in the surgery room throughout the procedure to monitor the patient’s response. Once the surgery is over, the patient will be brought out of anesthesia.
Temporary effects such as grogginess, nausea, shivering, headache, and sore throat may occur for a few hours following anesthesia. The patient should have someone to drive her back home after a brief period of post-op monitoring.

    Placing the Incisions

The plastic surgeon will begin the procedure by placing an incision either in the breast crease at the base, the areola perimeter, under the arm, or around the navel. Scarring can be discreet if the incisions are placed in inconspicuous locations. Incision placement will be done as per the surgical plan, which is finalized in close consultation with the patient.

    Placing the Implants

Through the incisions, the surgeon will create a suitable breast pocket to accommodate the implant. The position of the implant may be in front of the pectoral muscle and directly behind the breast tissue, or below the pectoral muscle. The surgery can be more or less invasive, depending on this choice. The surgeon will help the patient make the appropriate choice based on her breast anatomy and personal aesthetic preferences.

    Closing the Incisions

After the implants have been adjusted into the right position, the surgeon will suture the incisions carefully. If traditional sutures are used, the surgeon may remove them after a week or 10 days. Hygiene in the area around the stitches must be cautiously maintained in the immediate post-operative phase to minimize infection risks.
The patient should not submerge the incision site in water, and keep it free from any contact with dirt. Strenuous activities and heavy lift of weights should be avoided initially to prevent any strain on the incisions.

    Drains and Bandages

Following the surgery, the breasts will be wrapped in bandages and drainage tubes will be placed under the skin to collect excess fluid. The patient will be fitted with a surgical bra for extra support and shaping of the breasts during recovery. The surgical bra should worn all the time for several weeks until the healing is completed.
MBody receives patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas for breast augmentation.

    Breast Augmentation Plastic Surgery Recovery

Breast Augmentation Plastic Surgery Recovery | Richmond | RestonAdvancements in surgical techniques have made breast augmentation a relatively less invasive and less painful plastic surgery procedure than before. However, it still involves a considerable recovery process. The patient should be prepared to follow the surgeon’s advice for recovery in order to ensure safe and desirable outcomes.
Mbody, led by board certified plastic surgeons, provides breast augmentation and various other cosmetic procedures. Patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations have an opportunity to receive breast augmentation at MBody.

    Estimated Downtime

A patient will have to go through a post-operative period of at least three days of reduced activity following breast augmentation plastic surgery. For the next three to four days, she may do perform mild activities within the home, which do not put a strain on the incisions. More active tasks can be pursued from the second week.
Total downtime and overall recovery period will differ between patients according to the breast implant technique performed, the size and type of implants, the location of incisions, and the patient’s natural healing ability. In about 10 to 14 days, most patients can return to work. Heavy lifting of weights and vigorous exercises can be resumed after one month.

    Wearing a Surgical Bra

Surgical garments are an important part of the breast augmentation recovery. The plastic surgeon will recommend the appropriate garments as required. In case of subglandular implant placement, the healing will be faster, and the patient may only manage with a normal bra for breast support, but without an underwire.
If the implants have been placed submuscularly, a special surgical bra or a wrap-style bandage will have to be worn. This will help the implant to harmonize with the breast tissue and muscle. It will support healing and enable the patient to acquire a natural breast appearance.
MBody receives patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas for breast augmentation.

    Avoiding Tobacco

Smoking and post-surgical healing do not go together. Nicotine tends to shrink the blood vessels, resulting in lowering of the oxygen levels in the blood and hampering the function of RBCs. This can delay the normal healing process and pose risk for the patient.

    Pain Medications

In the first few days, most patients will experience some amount of pain and discomfort. Pain medications may be prescribed by the surgeon to help manage the recovery in a comfortable way. Driving and any other activity requiring alertness should be avoided while the patient is using pain meds.

    Follow-up Appointments

In most cases, breast augmentation is performed on an outpatient basis. Therefore, the surgeon may call the patient the next day for a check-up. Some surgeons prefer to make the first post-op appointment at the end of the first week.
At this time, they will review the condition and remove the drains and sutures. Some surgeons may also recommend a professional massage or breast implant exercise regimen in order to support the surgical outcome.
